Nitasha Jaini
Nitasha was born in Punjab in 1963 to a highly accomplished
educationist mother and an Army officer father ,she received her art
education in Amritsar uptill M.A.FineArts. Her experiences of
patriarchy got firmed up from an early age. Her exposure to national-
international art in Delhi sharpened her journey as an artist. The
Urban man soon became the subject of her art. From 1995 onwards drawing painting a serious
subject led her to Berlin in 2000, where at the Indian Cultural centre,she did a solo show Inner
Outer, built on the idea of the materialistic male versus the spiritual core. She has shown her art
in 11 one person shows and 30 group shows In India and abroad. She did an installation with
paper cut outs for Jaipur Art summit which was applauded by independent press. In 2020 Judy
Chicago, the eminent feminist artist placed her work in her curated online show titled ‘Solstice
: create art for earth’. Vinod Bhardwaj, art critic discussed her art in his book, ‘samay sachai or
sapne’ where he titled a chapter with the line – when a woman artist makes men nude-referring
to her male nudes solo show. In 1995 Keshav Malik wrote ‘Thank God for a woman painter
who is not banking on her own gender but on the so-called opposite sex. This shows something
close to objectivity or at least an intellectual curiosity’. She has shown her art in Porirua
Museum of Art NewZealand, Busan Biennale , Jerusalem Biennale. She was awarded third
prize in 2025 by National Gallery of Modern Art New Delhi during Seva Parv.
Her work has been seen in shows curated by Eminent art historians and curators - Dr.Alka
Pandey, Johnny ML,Shri Prayag Shukla,Vani Subramanian.Ratanottama Sengupta.
